Biblical Counseling
We are excited to offer biblical counseling services to our students here at Ripon Christian, led by Renae Goslinga. This program has been an invaluable resource, helping students renew their minds with Scripture, empowering them to live each day in a way that honors God over self.
Biblical counseling is discipleship, teaching counselees to practice all that Christ has commanded (Matthew 28:19-20). Disciples are people who desire, think, speak and act like Jesus (Romans 8:29, Colossians 3:10). When we are struggling with issues (sin struggles, faith struggles, relationships, or circumstances that are out of our control), God says that you are not alone (I Corinthians 10:13) and that Scripture has the answers (Psalm 19:7, II Timothy 3:16). God’s Word is sufficient to advise and teach us in the ways of life and godliness (II Peter 1:3). It even speaks to issues not present in the time Scripture was written (ie. social media, pornography).
The emphasis is not on behavior, but rather on the desires of the hearts, our motives, and idols we may be worshiping above God. The goal is to continually renew the mind with Scripture so that you can live life pleasing God over self in every daily moment. All Christians struggle, yet we were not meant to struggle alone. Christ is with us (Isaiah 41:10, Deuteronomy 31:8). He gives us His Word, His Spirit and His people to comfort us (II Corinthians 1:3-7, John 14:26-27, Joshua 1:8). The core of biblical counseling is to love our fellow Christian by walking alongside them through their struggles, aligning heart desires with Scripture to permanently transform the heart (Romans 12:2), learning to think biblically (II Corinthians 10:5, I Thessalonians 5:21-22) about life’s circumstances, seeing all of life through the lens of Scripture, trusting God (Romans 8:28-29), and offering the hope and peace (I Peter 1:3-9, John 14:27, Psalm 29:11) that only Christ can give.
